2.  Course Title

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

4.  Course duration & Commencement Date

This is a 5 day course

5.  Number of Participants

A maximum of 10 participants can be accepted for this course

6.  Participant Profile (Who should attend)
This course is intended for maintenance technicians, engineers and as familiarisation for plant supervisors who require some familiarity with such systems. It is highly recommended that this course be taken after Distributed Control Systems.

This well established course cover, an introductory levels both hardware and software aspects of the programmable logic controller (PLC).
The market for programmable logic controllers is expanding at an alarming rate, whilst the knowledge for the implementation of this equipment is sadly lacking. This course will enable technicians to commission and maintain this equipment with confidence and in a safe manner. A good proportion of this course involves practical exercises using the Allen Bradley SLC 500 simulator

The delegate attending this Programme is designed for engineers and technicians with a minimum of 5 years experience.  Each candidate should have a good command of general English in order to gain maximum benefit from the course.

7.  Course Venue

The programme will be conducted at the client's training facilities

8.  Reports

Individual reports will be prepared for each delegate and will be forwarded to the concerned company and will include:

- Initial Assessment
- Detailed Assessment
- Expected Achievement
- Final Evaluation

10.  Programme Topics Covered

Detailed course content is given in the Course Outline, Section 11. However, the main topics covered are:

• Relay control systems
• Development of programmable controllers
• Interfacing and ladder logic fundamentals
• Types of output devices and circuits
• Types of input devices and circuits
• Latching circuits and timers
• Digital to analogue conversion
• Analogue to digital conversion

The classroom training is enhanced by the use of role-play, personal computer systems (CBT) where available and related exercises.

In order to achieve the above, the programme is divided up into 3 modules comprising the following:
